Types of Churches in Las Vegas
Las Vegas has nearly any type of church you may imagine. Varying sizes and religions. Of course, this time of year many people go to church for Christmas services. I have often heard people tell me that as a child, they were taken to church twice a year: Christmas and Easter. It is not all that uncommon of a story. So this time of year, many folks look at churches of the Christian or Catholic faiths. However, there are countless synagogues, chapels, temples and various other types of gathering places for spiritual growth.

Praise the Lord and Pass the Dice
There is a long standing joke about churches in Las Vegas. You see, in Las Vegas we are number 9 of the cities with the most churches per capita. And as the old joke goes, “That doesn’t include the folks praying at the dice table.” However, many residents may have no clue that churches played a large part in the founding and growth of Las Vegas. In fact, it is widely acknowledged that Las Vegas got it’s start in no small part due to the missionaries of the Mormon Church. The Mormon Church is still quite strong in Las Vegas today.
The New Movement
Many historians are familiar with the growth of a new type of Christian church in the last 50 years. The non denomination Christian church has been growing fast – especially in the last 50 years. Therefore, when it comes to churches in Las Vegas, some of the fastest growing are non-denomenational Christian churches. With a focus on relatable messages, services that average an hour in length and a “come as you are” environment. Many folks across the country may be caught by surprise at how these churches have grown in Las Vegas.
Of course, with our area and its numerous available vices, it seems that was natural for these churches to flourish in this town. After all, to be able to come to church before you “got your act together” makes much more sense in Las Vegas. One such church here in Las Vegas has developed an entire “it’s okay to not be okay” environment. Obviously, this makes this type of church an easier first step. They usually begin the service with contemporary music and a stage environment much like shows on the Strip. Thus, these services feel much more welcoming than many first time visitors may imagine.
